The Mark of the Beast Explained

Living by Faith

Foreword

Why is this book important? I believe that very soon we will come to the greatest time of trouble our world has ever experienced. Both the power of God and the power of the devil will be displayed. How can we be ready for this? The Lord has given a message to prepare us for this time and He will make a compelling appeal to each of us.

In the book of Revelation we read: “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and fountains of water.” Rev. 14:6,7.

What is this everlasting gospel? How do we prepare for the judgment? How do we give glory to God? How do we worship the Creator?

The best answers I have found come from a message the Lord gave through two ministers, Elders Waggoner and Jones. Their writings contain the clearest presentation of the gospel I have read.

“The Lord in His great mercy sent a most precious message to His people through Elders Waggoner and Jones. This message was to bring more prominently before the world the uplifted Saviour, the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. It presented justification through faith in the Surety; it invited the people to receive the righteousness of Christ, which is made manifest in obedience to all the commandments of God.” Last Day Events by Ellen G. White, p. 200.

But this “most precious message” given through Elders Waggoner and Jones is not readily available. So this book brings together a selection of their writings containing the heart and soul of their message, presented in a way you can easily understand.

Because these articles were originally written in the late nineteenth century the language and style have been updated in places to make them more readable and more personal. The distinct presentation of the gospel remains unchanged.

God’s purpose in giving you this message is so He can “make an end of sins” in your life; that through the faith of Jesus He can “bring in everlasting righteousness.” Dan. 9:24. Then He will say of His people, “Here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Rev. 14:12.
